Gain from accessibility

Accessibility on the Internet offers both customer/client value and user value. We have collected some arguments for technical accessibility that supplement the obvious - that more people can use an accessible website.

  • Standard-built websites are less expensive to both develop and maintain. They are faster to code because it uses less code, and long test periods are eliminated.

  • Increased accessibility makes the websites faster. With the content and design separated, the size of the pages is reduced between 40 and 70 per cent. That means faster download times for visitors.

  • To follow the standard means that it is much easier to implement pervasive changes across the entire website at once. Because the style sheets are stored in separate documents, one can have an impact on the entire website by applying a new style sheet, and thereby completely changing the structure, typography and color, with immediate effect.

  • By following the standard, and thereby separating content from design, it becomes easier to customize the content for different publishing channels (such as mobile phones and PDAs) or for printing.

  • By building according to a standard, customers/clients become more independent of their suppliers. It is much easier to take over a project that follows the standard.

  • By building according to a standard one secures the website for the future. As browsers evolve and become increasingly less permissive, pages that do not follow the standard risk to be displayed in a non-intended way.

  • User usefulness consists of the logical structure. Simple and well-structured websites are easier for everyone to use. The user gets a much more positive image of the company / authority when one quickly finds the information they are looking for.

  • By simplifying the website, more users can carry out orders, purchases and information searches on the web. That means less strain on customer service by telephone and reduced costs for mailing. An accessible intranet or back-office on an E-commerce site means efficiency of management and smoother handling of incoming orders.

  • Accessibility work has large amount of goodwill for the customer's/client's own profiling and can be used in both public relations and marketing.
